Nutrition Education Director

Full-time, Exempt · $45,000-$55,000 salaried · Flexible

Essential Functions

  • Strategic Leadership — Develops long-term program goals, operational frameworks, and strategic plans that align with organizational missions.

  • Program Oversight — Directs all nutrition education and related Policy, Systems, and Environmental (PSE) initiatives, such as community-based workshops. (Kitchens and Garden)

  • Compliance Management — Ensures program integrity by adhering to USDA regulations, local health codes, and federal/state policies.

  • Financial Administration — Assists in department budget preparation, monitors expenditures, and ensures cost-effectiveness of operations.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Technical Expert — Provides dietetic, food safety, and nutrition science expertise to guide internal initiatives and external curriculum. Oversee quantity food production and/or culinary arts.

  • Team Supervisor — Manages personnel actions including hiring, training, professional development, and performance evaluations for nutrition staff and volunteers.

  • Stakeholder Liaison — Acts as the primary representative of program partners and coordinates with all partners to expand program reach.

  • Resource Advocate — Assists in grant writing and proposal drafting to secure funding for nutrition initiatives.

  • Program Management — Oversees the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nutrition programs.

  • Curriculum Development — Leads the design of educational materials and strategies to improve nutritional outcomes and customer satisfaction.

  • Evaluation & Reporting — Collaborates with evaluation teams to analyze program effectiveness and report data trends to senior leadership.

  • Quality Control — Implements and monitors standards for food safety, sanitation, and high-quality service across all program sites.

  • Outreach & Marketing — Develops and implements marketing plans to increase program participation and secure community support.

  • Staff Training — Facilitates mandatory and general training for professional staff on latest nutrition research and food safety.

  • All other duties assigned by your supervisor.

Position Qualifications

  • Education — Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, Education, or a related field is preferred. Or, a minimum of five years' experience in nutrition program planning and supervision.

  • Certifications — ServSafe Food Manager certification (or being able and willing to attain within first 90 days)

Warehouse and Grocery Manager

_Part-Time, Hourly Position · $15-$18/Hr · Mainly mornings and afternoons with rotating Saturdays. Evenings could be occasional. _

Essential Functions

  • Logistics & Distribution Lead — Coordinates the complex "push-pull" of food donations, getting food off donor trucks and onto store shelves or into regional delivery vehicles.

  • Operational Continuity — Ensures the warehouse is organized and the retail floor is fully stocked to meet the needs of the community.

  • Donor Relations Liaison — Acts as the professional face of the organization during pickups, maintaining positive relationships with grocery partners, farmers, and distributors and volunteers.

  • Food Safety Compliance — Serves as the primary authority on food safety, specifically regarding the "Best By" and "Use By" protocols for donated items.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Donation & Logistics Management

  • Pickup Coordination — Schedules and dispatches drivers (or personally handles pickups) for donated goods from local retailers and food banks.

  • Delivery Logistics — Manages the schedule for outbound deliveries to homebound members or partner locations.

  • Fleet Management — Oversees the maintenance, cleanliness, and safety inspections of organization vehicles.

  • Donation Processing — Directs the sorting, weighing, and labeling of all incoming donations to track the "poundage" for grant reporting.

Warehouse & Retail Operations

  • Inventory & Merchandising — Manages stock rotation (FEFO - First Expired, First Out) and designs store displays to ensure a dignified shopping experience.

  • Warehouse Safety — Enforces OSHA and health department standards; maintains organized cold and dry storage areas.

  • Staff & Volunteer Supervision — Trains and manages a team of warehouse assistants and volunteers in safe food handling and heavy lifting techniques.

  • Data Tracking — Records all incoming and outgoing inventory in a management system to analyze community demand and program impact.

Position Qualifications

  • Experience — 1+ years in warehouse, grocery, or food bank management. Experience specifically with food rescue or donated logistics is highly preferred.

  • Education — High school diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's in Logistics, Supply Chain, or Business is preferred.

  • Technical Skills — Proficiency in Inventory Management Software and route-optimization tools.

Licenses & Certifications

  • ServSafe Food Manager certification (essential for handling donations).

  • Valid Driver's License with a clean record (Commercial Driver's License/CDL preferred).

  • Forklift Operator certification preferred.

  • Physical Requirements — Must be able to lift 75 lbs repeatedly and work in various environments (walk-in freezers, loading docks, and retail floors).

  • Policy Advocacy — Acts as the internal expert and advocate for membership and volunteer policies, ensuring they are consistently applied by both staff and participants.

  • Community Ambassador — Promotes the store's mission at community events and volunteer fairs to attract new supporters.

  • Trainer & Facilitator — Leads mandatory orientations and safety trainings, ensuring all participants understand food handling and store safety protocols.

  • Recruitment & Onboarding — Develops marketing content for volunteer postings and leads new-member orientation sessions.

  • Scheduling — Manages weekly shift calendars, finding replacements for cancellations and ensuring critical times (like delivery days) are covered.

  • Customer & Member Service — Resolves grievances, processes member paperwork (IDs, proof of address), and triages inquiries via phone and email.

  • Financial & Impact Reporting — Tracks member dues and volunteer hours to provide monthly reports on program growth and cost-savings to leadership.

  • Store Support — Assists on the floor with cashiering, stocking, or warehouse tasks during peak volume periods or emergencies.

  • All other duties assign by your supervisor.

Position Qualifications

  • Must be 18 or older

  • **Education: ** — High School Diploma or GED

  • Experience — 1+ years in volunteer coordination or member services, ideally in a retail or food-related nonprofit.

  • Skills — Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, database management, and excellent public speaking abilities.

  • Physical Demands — Ability to stand and walk for periods (up to 80% of the shift) and lift up to 40 lbs.
